Call for papers: Beautiful Exploits

Hi friend.

You are reading this page because I have invited you to contribute to my book project. Working title: "Beautifiul Exploits". (The book idea is inspired by the 2007 O'Reilly Book "beautiful code").

The book will consist of many articles by people like you. The idea is that everyone describes an own exploit that defies expectation. Something truly cool that cuts through layers upon layers of abstraction. Maybe something unexpected. Or a bug that ended up way more severe than you thought. Backstories are fun too. Maybe you ran into an odd bug collision? Maybe you found the bug accidentally?

FAQ

Here's what the article would look like.

What: Describe an exploit that you wrote. Tell us why it's the most beautiful exploit that you ever built.

How: If you need code highlighting or want to be fancy, I can invite you to a project on typst.app. Simple markdown should work too.

Length: Approximately 3-5 pages.

Timeline: We should aim to have all articles finished by June 12th 2026. I want to have something published by the end of 2026 and I assume we will need some time to turn content into a nice format.

Where: I want to convince a publisher to turn it into a real physical book, but that takes time and I can't promise it's going to happen.

Publisher? Money? I do not plan to make money with this. Books like these usually don't make a lot of money anyway. Once I have found a publisher, I will let you know.

Copyright For the purpose of allowing me to publish the content, we will likely need you to sign a form where you give publishing rights to enable the publication (I am not a lawyer. More soon).

Who?. I have a few people in mind. If there's someone you'd like to recommend, let me know. If there's someone you'd hate to be associated with... well, also let me know. But ultimately, I am calling the shots here :-)

Need help? More Questions? Unsure if your exploit is suitable? Want to tell someone else about this? Want to "sign up"? Write to me at <freddy(at)security(dot)plumbing>.
